Hendrick ter Brugghen was a Dutch painter and a leading member of the Utrecht Caravaggisti. He was among the first Dutch artists to bring Caravaggio's style to the Netherlands, influencing the development of Dutch Baroque painting with his dramatic use of light and shadow and his focus on emotionally expressive figures.
