Simon de Vlieger was a Dutch Golden Age painter, draughtsman, and designer, best known for his marine paintings. He significantly influenced the development of Dutch seascape painting, moving away from earlier dramatic depictions towards more realistic and atmospheric portrayals of the sea and sky.
