Piet Mondrian was a Dutch painter and art theoretician who is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He is best known for his non-representational paintings that he called "compositions," which consisted of black lines and blocks of primary colors on a white canvas, and was a key figure in the development of abstract art.
