Marianne Stokes, born Marianne Preindlsberger, was an Austrian-born painter who settled in England, becoming a significant figure in the later wave of Pre-Raphaelitism and the Arts and Crafts movement. Her work often depicted scenes of peasant life and historical subjects, characterized by a blend of realism and decorative stylization.
