approach — 8 steps

  1. step 01

Create a rough sketch to establish the composition and proportions of the main elements (figure, chair, window, cityscape).

  2. step 02

Block in the main color areas using thin washes of paint, focusing on the overall value structure.

  3. step 03

Begin building up the details of the figure and chair, paying attention to the light and shadow.

  4. step 04

Develop the background, including the window and cityscape, using looser brushstrokes and a more muted palette.

  5. step 05

Add details to the plant and other foreground elements.

  6. step 06

Refine the overall painting, adjusting values and colors as needed.

  7. step 07

    Add final details and highlights.

  8. step 08

    Let dry and varnish.
