approach — 8 steps

  1. step 01

Lightly sketch the overall shape and proportions of the head, shoulders, and guitar.

  2. step 02

Refine the contour lines, paying attention to the angles and curves of the face and instrument.

  3. step 03

Begin adding shading with light, short strokes, focusing on areas of shadow like under the chin and around the hair.

  4. step 04

Gradually build up the darker values, using cross-hatching to create depth and texture.

  5. step 05

Add details to the face, such as the eyes, nose, and mouth, being careful to capture the subject's expression.

  6. step 06

Define the shape of the guitar with darker lines and shading, adding details like the strings and tuning pegs.

  7. step 07

Soften some of the lines and edges to create a more natural and realistic look.

  8. step 08

Add final touches and highlights to complete the drawing.
