Petrus Christus was an Early Netherlandish painter active in Bruges, and is considered a key figure in the transition from the Early Netherlandish style of Jan van Eyck to the more classical style of the later 15th century. His meticulous technique and innovative compositions, particularly in portraiture, influenced generations of artists.
