approach — 8 steps

  1. step 01

Sketch the basic shapes and composition of the still life on the canvas.

  2. step 02

Block in the background with a base color of brown and add the blue vertical lines.

  3. step 03

Paint the tablecloth with a light gray or off-white color.

  4. step 04

Start filling in the larger shapes of the objects (bottles, dishes, fruit) with their base colors.

  5. step 05

Add details to the objects, such as the labels on the bottles, the patterns on the dishes, and the textures of the fruit.

  6. step 06

Use short, visible brushstrokes to create texture and dimension.

  7. step 07

Add highlights and shadows to create depth and form.

  8. step 08

Refine the details and make any necessary adjustments.
