approach — 8 steps

  1. step 01

Lightly sketch the overall composition, focusing on the placement of the figure, demons, and background elements.

  2. step 02

Establish the light source (lamp post) and map out the areas of light and shadow.

  3. step 03

Begin shading the figure with light pencil strokes, building up darker values in the folds of the clothing.

  4. step 04

Add details to the figure's face and hands, paying attention to the expression.

  5. step 05

Sketch and shade the demons, varying their poses and details.

  6. step 06

Create the background using cross-hatching and stippling to suggest texture and depth.

  7. step 07

Refine the shadows and highlights to enhance the contrast and create a sense of depth.

  8. step 08

Add final details and touch-ups to complete the drawing.
