Karl Bodmer was a Swiss-French printmaker, etcher, lithographer, draughtsman, and painter. He is best known as an artist who accompanied Prince Maximilian zu Wied-Neuwied on his expedition to the American Midwest in the early 1830s, creating detailed and accurate depictions of Native Americans and the American landscape.
