approach — 8 steps

  1. step 01

Lightly sketch the basic shapes of the figure, window, and still life elements.

  2. step 02

Apply a light wash of blue watercolor to the window area, varying the intensity for depth.

  3. step 03

Add a touch of yellow to the window to create highlights.

  4. step 04

Paint the figure's dress with a diluted red watercolor, allowing it to bleed and blend.

  5. step 05

Use a darker red to define the edges and details of the dress and boots.

  6. step 06

Add light washes of color to the still life object.

  7. step 07

Once dry, use a pen or pencil to add expressive linework to define the forms and details.

  8. step 08

Add final touches and adjust the colors as needed.

color palette

primary · cerulean blue · alizarin crimson · raw sienna

secondary · sap green · yellow ochre

Mix light blues by diluting cerulean blue with water. Create variations of red by adding more or less water to alizarin crimson. Use raw sienna for the floor and still life object.
