approach — 8 steps

  1. step 01

    Lightly sketch the basic shapes of the hills, water, and town layout.

  2. step 02

    Apply a light wash of yellow and green to the sky area.

  3. step 03

    Create a dark blue wash for the sky and mountain area, allowing it to blend with the yellow.

  4. step 04

    Paint the water area with a diluted blue-green wash.

  5. step 05

    Add darker green and brown washes to the hills, building up depth.

  6. step 06

    Use small brushstrokes to define the buildings with reds, yellows, and whites.

  7. step 07

    Add final details and highlights to the buildings and landscape.

  8. step 08

    Allow the painting to dry completely.
